Cut-To-Size Technology has to be ready to handle a wide variety of materials when cutting job lots on it’s beam saws. Flexible tooling is important.
Cut-To-Size Technology in Addison, Ill., doesn’t get to choose the material it works with.
“Being a job shop we get a tremendous variety of board, and we can’t dictate which mill it’s coming from,” says Mark Karkos, Cut-To-Size president. “Our distributors send us what’s on their floor. Having that variety means that cutting quality can change dramatically from panel to panel.”
That means tooling that is versatile is a necessity. Karkos says that Freud’;s aluminum-titanium panel saw blades have worked well on the variety of materials they receive.
“The Freud blades have been a lot more forgiving and lasted longer throughout the cutting process,” he says. “We’ve reduced our sharpening costs and increased blade life with a better quality cut.”
CTS also uses Freud’s compression spiral and down spiral router bits on the CNC routers. “They’re very forgiving across a wide array of materials, with less chipout and longer life,” Karkos says.
