Woodcraft, The Patriot Woodworker organization and Easy Wood Tools are sponsoring a woodturning contest to raise money to build homes for seriously injured U.S. veterans. The grand-prize winner in The Patriot Woodworker Woodturning Contest will win a patriotic set of Easy Wood Tools donated by Woodcraft, including a mini rougher, mini detailer, and mini finisher with red, white and blue colored handles, autographed by Easy Wood Tools owner Craig Jackson.
Other prizes, donated by The Patriot Woodworker and Easy Wood Tools, include: a mini rougher for second place, a mini finisher for third place and a mini detailer for the People's Choice award.
Contest entries will be accepted from Aug. 18 through Oct. 1 in the form of digital photos to be submitted to thepatriotwoodworker@verizon.net. Contestants may enter any turning they created in the last two years. Entries will be judged on uniqueness, complexity, color, form and finish. The top three finalists will be asked to ship their art to The Patriot Woodworker for final judging, and winners will be announced Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Winning entries will be auctioned to raise money for Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit group that helps severely injured veterans and their immediate families build homes that meet the veterans’ special needs.
