Keeping track of projects and personnel is always a problem in a busy shop, but it’s crucial to effective project management and cost control. To tackle that challenge, A Ward Design, a cabinet shop in Winter Haven, Fla., set up what owner Kevin Ward calls the “command center” right in the middle of the shop.
The command center consists of a plywood panel with both low-tech and high-tech tools to manage jobs and people in the shop. At the center is a computer monitor mounted right into the panel. That is used to run Taskklock software for tracking employee hours. It’s easy for everyone in the shop to access the terminal.
Surrounding the computer screen are plans, charts, clipboards and job paperwork to make it easy for everyone in the shop to see where projects stand and what needs to be done next.
