School and office furniture supplier OFM Inc. says it will focus on keeping costs low for public-sector buyers, as the company expects these customers to push for lower prices with federal budget cuts and the ongoing recession.
OFM predicts an overall 5 percent decline in spending on public sector furniture sales. The company said the summer months are usually a busy season for the industry as schools purchase furniture when students are on break and the government makes its purchases before the fiscal year ends on Sept. 30.
“There is still a strong need for new chairs, desks and other furniture in schools and government offices, but buyers will be more focused than ever on price,” Abel Zalcberg, co-founder and chief executive, said. “The more time they spend looking at the options, the more likely they are to choose one of OFM’s affordable options.”
