Two furniture design students were recently selected as the winners in the Perennial Wood Appalachian State Design Studio.
The design studio asked students to design furniture pieces incorporating Perennial Wood, and showcased twelve of the finalists' designs to be displayed at the recently held High Point Market Week in High Point, N.C.
Michael DeMarco from Charlotte, N.C., won the grand prize for his furniture piece, "Strangler Floor Lamp." His design was selected as the winner by a panel of experts from Eastman, a sponsor, and Appalachian State University for exemplary design approach, use of medium (Perennial Wood), and purpose, usefulness and aesthetics. As the grand-prize winner, DeMarco will receive a professionally produced video of his furniture project for inclusion in his portfolio and on the Eastman Innovation Lab website.
Additionally, Derek Elliot from Cary, N.C., was named winner of the People's Choice award for receiving the most votes via social media. In recognition of his award, Elliot's winning design, "Patio Chaise," will receive online recognition at www.perennialwood.com/AboutUs/CurrentPromotions/Pages/Home.aspx and through social media.
