Release Date:
A nationwide survey of remodeling contractors by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry found a significant increase in the cost of a remodeling project due to current federal regulation.
According to survey results, federal regulation is not only unwelcome to many homeowners, but also negatively impacts the scores of small remodeling businesses. Many contractors and homeowners indicated in the surveys that the additional cost of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule currently deters homeowners’ use of lead-safe certified contractors.
NARI says that EPA's latest regulation proposal would add “lead clearance testing” to renovations in homes built prior to 1978, which would further drive up remodeling costs for homeowners and regulation-compliance costs for small businesses. A copy of the survey results is available by contacting NARI.
