Release Date:
Ligna Hanover 2011 will feature lightweight construction as a keynote theme of this wood and forestry industry event.
Lightweight wood construction offers significant reductions in weight and material consumption, ease of handling and reduced transport costs, Ligna organizers say. The show will highlight these and other benefits through presentations and the "Think Light" conference. The lightweight construction theme will also offer a look at different types of composite wood panel systems, including honeycomb and sandwich, and the various uses for each type.
A number of companies from across the production chain are collaborating on the ongoing development of lightweight panels with a focus on new materials, new designs and new technical processes, all of which can be seen at Ligna. In terms of the panels themselves, the primary focus of innovation is currently on what lies between the surface layers: new material mixes, optimized inner-layer geometries and the use of natural fibers such as hemp. Consequently, machinery firms will bring a number of lightweight construction solutions to Ligna, such as systems for rapid, cost-effective supportive edge-banding and systems that enable the continuous production of frameless lightweight panels.
Ligna will take place May 30 through June 3, in Hanover, Germany.
