Home furnishings retailer Ikea officially plugged in the solar energy systems installed atop its stores in Canton, Mich., and Woodbridge, Va.
The 122,200-square-foot PV array in Michigan was developed with SoCore Energy. It consists of a 977.6-kW system, built with 4,160 panels, which will produce approximately 1,114,943 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 769 tons of carbon dioxide.
The 63,000-square-foot PV array in Virginia was developed with Gehrlicher Solar America Corp. This system consists of a 504-kW system, built with 2,100 panels, which will produce approximately 636,199 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 439 tons of carbon dioxide.
These two solar energy systems bring Ikea closer to its goal of making the company's U.S. solar presence nearly 89 percent with a total generation of 38 MW. For more information on the company's goals or products, please visit www.ikea.com.
