The Cabinet Makers Association will present eight educational sessions at AWFS Fair 2011, taking place July 20-23, in Las Vegas. Many of CMA's educational seminars and workshops will offer CMA continuing CEU credits.
The first session on Wednesday, July 20, will feature CMA's president, Joe Knobbe, and two design and architecture professionals, in a session titled, "How to Work with Architects & Designers."
On Thursday, "Cost, Pricing & Profit: The Art of Bidding," will be presented by Sean Benetin, immediate past CMA president. The session details the use of excel spreadsheets for manufacturers to develop pricing and hourly rates, and will award two CEUs to those who attend. In the afternoon session, Benetin will join the panel session, "Think Creatively! Business Strategies for an Evolving Market." "Automating the Small Shop" is another CMA panel session that will take place, in which CMA members will share experiences in running small to mid-size custom shops and represent the viewpoints of vendors.
CMA's educational offerings will conclude on Friday, with panel discussions titled, "Hold on to your hats!" and "Diversify! How to Capitalize on Market Opportunities," as well as three seminars that each award 1.5 CEUs to those in attendance. A seminar on "Teaching Frameless Cabinetry" will be led by CMA founding member Bob Buckley. In a seminar titled, "CAD/CNC and the Small Custom Furniture Maker," presenter Leland Thomasett will cover best practices and share tips from his mid-sized custom shop. Finally, "Transitioning from Residential to Commercial Work" will share real experience of how a New Mexico architectural millwork owner grew his marginal business into a large commercial shop.
