AyA Kitchens and Baths has collaborated with Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting on the design.
Inspired by the constraints of the condo lifestyle, AyA Kitchens and Baths has collaborated with Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting for this year’s Interior Design Show (IDS12) to create a novel design for condo living. A dramatic, yet elegant kitchen, hidden right before the eyes, allows the space to be transformed from a typical kitchen into a sophisticated living space with little effort. Sleek, black high gloss slab pocket doors pull out and close to conceal the cabinetry and appliances. AyA’s high-gloss Chelsea doors are paired with state of the art Miele stainless steel appliances, and the photography of Tony Koukos illuminates and enlivens the backsplash.
The kitchen island features an integrated dishwasher and wine cooler, also finished in the dramatic high gloss black finish. Underlit by LED lights, the illuminated white Glacier Ice Corian island top is framed by a complimentary Mystic Black Zodiaq Quartz enhancing the work surface and spotlighting the tavern style bar tap. Connecting the living space to the kitchen is an integrated LCD television framed and overlayed with black back painted glass. The television disappears when turned off and vividly reappears when turned on, becoming the focal point of the lounge seating on the opposite wall.

The mood of the multi-use entertainment area is set with the tone-on-tone materials used throughout the space; from accessories to art to furniture. Translucent black curtains enfold guests upon entering the unit and draw attention to the ceiling accented in similar fabric. The organic materials in an array of textures and tones draw attention to every accent in the booth. The textured dark wood flooring from Relative Space complements Toronto artist Scott Eunson’s “End Grain Wall” which was fabricated from salvaged wood from a dismantled airplane hangar. The banquette is covered with soft faux wild horse stallion fabric, providing a comfortable seat for lounging or dining and integrates hidden storage drawers below.Soft mood lighting is created with a variety of accent lighting including custom sculptural wire and cylindrical fixtures by Stroudfoot Inc. A collage of LCD televisions exhibiting video artist David Rokeby’s piece “Plot Against Time #2 (flurry)”, tracks the movement and beauty of individual snowflakes drawing attention to the back wall.
