Accu-Router held a CNC technology forum in Morrison, Tenn., and brought together production management from several woodworking industry sectors to see live demonstrations of its next generation automated CNC conveyor technology.
Accu-Router has announced the full integration of its sixth generation automated conveyor system (ACS) with a high velocity machining cell. For the first time, the design and complete assembly were brought in house to an effort to reduce material costs and ensure a robust product structure with wall thicknesses of ¼-inch steel or more. Powered rollers provide the ACS motion while a high speed pick and place unit performs panel loading. A built-in rotary dust clean-off station is included to clean off carrier panels. All ACS functionality is designed into the host CNC control ladder architecture.
This automated conveyor system is wrapped around an Accu-Router Green CNC remanufactured high-velocity machining cell equipped with the latest Fanuc CNC control, the model Oi-MD. This machine features two high-speed spindles and two five- spindle vertical drillheads with servo lateral adjustment in between to optimize material yield. The machine will stack cut three ½-inch thick panels at a time, creating six parts every program move. While the Accu-Router machine is cutting, the ACS will be arranging the next cycle automatically. There is an approximate 30 seconds involved between cutting cycles which approximates a near continuous production process. The clockwise production flow also is floor space efficient. This ACS system requires one cell operator to unload cut parts and offal/scrap. The cell operator is positioned in one area. Virtually all other cell requirements are handled automatically.
For example, a boating customer runs its Accu-Router conveyor 24 hours a day. They average 6,000 processed panels per month, with 98 percent of their parts coming off the Accu-Router. Most conveyor users can machine 400 or more stacked panels in one eight-hour shift. For more information, call Accu-Router at 800-239-5778, or visit Accu-Router.
